I remember being concerned about thisopic when I dressed for Day of the Dead last year. I had always wanted to attend a Day of the Dead festival and to dress in costume this way. It seemed very appropriate when my dear friend, Keith Puryear, took his life last fall. He was my inspiration for my costume. I think of him often and celebrate his life with the five pieces of original artwork of his that adorn our home. It’s also so lovely to still be in contact with his beautiful and talented wife, Molly, and a few of his friends from a former career.
I see nothing wrong with dressing the part of another culture when one does it passionately because of a meaningful connection, or out of an educated cultural interest in learning more. And even if someone dresses in such a way without much thought, I appreciate the thought it provokes in me. I do however, agree with what they’re saying about people poking fun or mocking cultural differences. Unfortunately, we all witness the hate and distasteful behaviors in today’s political leaders, that it’s no wonder people miss the mark on what’s appropriate, or debatable. That’s my take on it anyway.

I don’t imagine that anyone particularly cares what I think but I feel, my very personal opinion is that Halloween is about being scary, being spooky, ghosts and goblins..hallows eve. BBC
